ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip | Review & Swatches

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip | Review & Swatches

I have been desperate to get my hands on some of the Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks from ColourPop for SO long. I have followed their social media and all the hype sounding them over the last year or so and it’s been so frustrating not to be able to try them out as they aren’t available to buy in the UK and they don’t have any shipping options to the UK on their website. That is until a few weeks ago when Fran mentioned she was doing a ColourPop order and asked if I’d like to get in on it, obviously I jumped at the chance! Fran used a shipping service and she explains how she did it in her post here if you want some more information. I didn’t know these services existed but now I do I would definitely consider doing this in the future as it seems quite a smooth process.

One of the reasons the ColourPop ultra matte lips have been talked about so much recently is because of their similarity to the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits.  I saw so many posts and articles saying they are made in the same factory with exactly the same ingredients, except they are a fraction of the price. I still don’t know whether all these rumours are true, but this article from Cosmopolitan has pretty much confirmed it for me. The ColourPop ultra matte lips retail at $6 dollars whereas the Kylie kits are $29 so it’s quite a big price difference.

So….Why do I love them so much? Keep reading!

I chose to get five of the ultra matte lips in the shades:

Solow - a neutral nude pink
Seesaw - a pastel lavender pink
Bianca – a soft mauve pink
1st Base - a mid-tone true pink
Midi - a soft neutral beige

I love the packaging of the liquid lipsticks, it feels high end and good quality. The applicator is similar to most other liquid lipstick applicators I have tried and it works very well to apply the product to the lips.

As soon as you apply these to your lips you can feel the liquid starting to dry straight away. It sets in around a minute and once it has set, it literally does not budge at all. The lipsticks are super pigmented, it only takes one full layer to completely cover the lips and this is the same with all the shades. This is pretty impressive considering how cheap these are.

As the name says, these are most definitely ultra matte. If you don’t usually like matte lip products or have quite dry lips then I wouldn’t recommend these to you. However if you are a fan of matte lips then I 100% recommend these. If you have read any of my other reviews on lip products you will notice they are all matte products as I’m a big fan of matte lips. These are extremely matte and I absolutely love it! Once they have dried on the lips they feel almost slightly powdery, there is no moisture at all in them.

As they are so matte they are drying on the lips. I don’t mind this because I just put a little bit of lip balm on after and it solves the problem. It’s worth it considering how long they last on the lips. Also, even though they are dying it’s not uncomfortable and doesn’t bother me at all.

I love all the five colours I chose, but my absolute favourite at the moment is Bianca. It’s such a perfect everyday colour and I have been getting complements every time I wear it.

Overall, I am completely in love with these ColourPop ultra matte lips! The price is extremely reasonable, they are high quality and there is a huge range of shades available. The only bad thing is that they are not available to buy in the UK! I hope they change thiss
