Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. I am having such a nice time being back home visiting my parents and some friends who I haven’t seen since moving to London two months ago. I have a free couple of hours and thought I would write up this post which I have been meaning to do for awhile. Today’s topic is the ‘Chanel Soleil tan de bronzing make–up base’ (what a name!). I wanted this for so long and never bought it due to the expensive price tag of £32, but I was lucky enough to receive it as a Christmas present and now I am going to share my thoughts.

Firstly, there is no denying how beautiful the packaging is. I love the gorgeous black and gold design and Chanel logo, it is so elegant and pretty. It is a great size as well so really easy to get any size brush into – though the slightly large packaging can be a pain when it comes to storage or if you are travelling with limited space.

Chanel’s descriptionThe velvety finish of this light cream-gel bronzer leaves your skin with a beautiful sun-bathed look. Wear it on its own, or for a hint of outdoors radiance, over or under your favorite CHANEL foundation’.

I’m not sure why it is called a makeup base as Chanel says you can use it over or under a foundation – calling it a makeup base suggests you can only use it under a foundation and I think this is misleading as it’s definitely not the case. I don’t really use any bronzing bases under foundation as I prefer bronzer over my foundation and I knew straight away I would be using this over my foundation.

When I opened it up for the first time I fell in love with the gorgeous perfumed smell and pretty swirly design, it reminded me of a chocolate mousse and looked so good I wanted to eat it! I have experimented with a few different brushes to apply this and my current favourite is a foundation brush, due to the cream formula I think this works best. I use my Real Techniques stippling brush by patting the brush in the bronzer and buffing it into the skin in areas I want to contour. You could use any kind of brush with this it just depends what suits you best – you could even use your fingers to blend it into the skin if you wanted to the same way you would with foundation.

This bronzer is the perfect shade for contouring – it is so buildable so you can keep layering it until you get your desired look. I tend to keep it light during the day and go for a more sculpted, tanned look during the evenings if I’m going out. It is also so easy to control the bronzer as well, you can really get a great defined contoured look which I sometimes find harder to achieve with a powder bronzer.

In the past I have avoided cream based bronzers as I prefer a matte finish and not a dewy glowing look because I have naturally oily skin anyway. However, the great thing about this bronzer is that although it is creamy, when blended in it leaves a fairly matte finish – but it still provides a natural glow which is just the perfect amount. It is because of this that I think this product would work well for all skin types. It is great for oily skin as it doesn’t leave you shiny and glowing, and it is also great for dry, sensitive skin as it is so soft and moisturising at the same time.

The only slight negative is that it could potentially look a bit orangey if you are quite pale or if you apply too much product. As long as you control how much you want and make sure it is all blended in properly I don’t think this would be much of a problem. Another solution to this would be to apply it under the foundation to give a more subtle finish. Obviously the price is a negative as well as it’s very pricey at £32 – but I do this it’s a good investment as you get a lot of product and it seems to last a long time.

Overall, I am really impressed with this bronzer. It is perfect for contouring and has become my go to bronzer in my morning makeup routine! Have you tried this bronzer? What are your thought?

Forever 21 Gym Wear Haul

The last few months have been so crazy for me, with Christmas, moving to London, starting a new job and trying to house hunt - and the gym got pushed back in my list of priorities! Finally it is all calming down a bit and the last couple of weeks I have been getting back into the gym and my fitness routine which I'm pleased about. I have recently joined a new gym which is right outside my office (no excuses now) and I thought it was only right to purchase some new pieces to go with my new membership.

So, on the weekend I went to Westfield's in search of  these new gym pieces. I looked in all the usual sportswear shops and although there was some lovely items from Nike, Adidas and other brands I just can't justify those high price tags. I love the gym and sportswear but it's just not something I'm willing to fork out lots of money for at the moment. To be honest I'd rather a new item of makeup! (I seriously have a problem).

I actually went into Forever 21 just for a browse and didn't knowing they had such a large selection of sportswear! When I saw the amount they had on offer - and not to mention their incredibly reasonable prices I was in heaven. I didn't know where to start and ended up taking about ten items in the changing rooms and wanting them all. I somehow managed to get it down to four items which I loved, two tops and two bottoms.

Leggings - £14
First I picked up these grey patterned leggings and as soon as I saw them I knew I would have to buy them. Until now I only have black gym leggings and I really fancied a change and something more exciting. Patterned gym wear seems to be everywhere at the moment and these are definitely on trend. They are so reasonably priced at £14 and the quality is great as well.
Shorts - £6
I'm not usually one for wearing tight fitting shorts in the gym, but recently I've been noticing the gym is really hot and I think it might actually be nicer to wear some shorts instead of leggings all the time. I also thought it would nice to have a pair of sports shorts for when the weather is nicer and warmer (hopefully) to go for outdoor runs. When I saw these I thought they are perfect as they are a bit longer so come further down the leg - and at £6 what a bargain!

Top - £12
I really liked the material of this black vest, it is so lightweight and floaty and I think it will sit perfecting on top of a sports bra. I also like the fact it's black as it will go with most things and I thought it would be great with my new patterned leggings and shorts.

Top - £12
The final piece I picked up was this pink gym vest. This is different to the black one as it is quite tight fitting, a thicker material and has a built in sports bra. The quality of this top is honestly amazing, and although I will probably still wear a sports bra underneath just for extra support, you probably don't need to if you don't want to as it provides good support and padding on it's own. Both the tops I bought were £12 each which I think is really reasonable.

That's everything I picked up from Forever 21, four new pieces for a total of £44 which I think is very reasonable! I know these aren't the most exciting items to talk about but I had to share my new found love for Forever 21 with you all! I hope if any of you struggle to find reasonably priced gym wear which has a good selection available this helps you.

What do you think of these pieces? Have you tried any Forever 21 gym wear? Is there anywhere else you recommend?

The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask - £13
I am such a big fan of face masks – I try to do them whenever I can even though it can be is hard to find the time.  When I do actually commit to one that suits my skin and use it a few times a week the results are always great. My favourite kind of face masks are clay/mud masks, I have tried others in the past like creams or peels, but they just don’t seem to suit my skin or give any noticeable benefits for me.

The latest one I have started using is the Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask. I bought this just before Christmas when they had some amazing discount codes on their website. It was spend £50 and get £25 off so I went a bit Body Shop crazy. I chose it because it said it is best for oily/combination skin and I am always looking for products to try which reduce excess oil. I always prefer to use products which are made especially for my skin type, products which say they are made for all skin types just don’t seem to work for me! I also chose it has I have read some amazing things about the benefits of seaweed to the skin and wanted to try some myself.

The first thing I liked about it when it arrived was the packaging. It comes in a plastic pot with a twistable lid – this means it is easy to store and there is no mess after using. I’d say there are around 10 uses in one pot so it is very important to me that the packaging is durable and there are no worries of it falling apart or leaking.

The next thing I noticed about it which I really like is the smell of the face mask. It smells very fresh, clean and reminds me of the ocean if that makes sense! It is a grey colour and a very thick consistency. This is great as I didn’t find I need much at all to get a good thick layer all over the face.

When applied, I’d say it takes around 10 minutes to dry – maybe a bit longer depending on how thick the layer is. When applied it does sting slightly and when it starts to dry you can really feel the tightness. I personally didn’t find this bothered me at all, but if you have sensitive or dry skin I can imagine this would be quite painful and probably do more harm than good, so I wouldn’t recommend it. With this face mask I think it’s really important it is ideal for your skin type, so if you have oil/ combination skin or normal skin, I would definitely recommend.

When I washed it off, I could instantly feel the results, my skin felt so clean, refreshed and soft. After doing some research I have read that seaweed has an anti-inflammatory effect which reduces the swelling of spots and pores, and it removes dead skin cells which can block pores. I really noticed the effect of this, I applied it in the evening before bed and in the morning a couple of spots that had a bit of redness had really reduced dramatically! Seaweed is packed with minerals and vitamins which moisturize the skin – and it is completely oil free!

As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of this face mask. I will definitely be repurchasing it again when it runs out, at £13 it is expensive, however considering you get around 10 uses I think it’s quite reasonable. Also, Body Shop always have such amazing discount codes so I will be looking out for these.  I have noticed as well that they have a whole range of products available made with seaweed, and I definitely want to try some more!

Has anyone tried this face mask or any other products from the seaweed range? Are there any others you recommend?

Me-Time Tag

Thanks Lauren from Blonde Vision for the tag! I love personal posts and finding out more about other bloggers interests, let me know what you think :)

1. What do you watch or read during me-time?
During me time I will most likely be watching one of the many TV shows I am obsessed with. At the moment this includes The Walking Dead, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries. I do enjoy watching films as well but I often find I never actually have enough time to sit down and watch a film all the way through. I also love all the easy to watch (some may say rubbish) reality TV shows. I will often just sit down and just browse whatever is on. Usually something like, TOWIE, Made In Chelsea, Big Brother, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Storage Hunters, Teen Mom and there’s probably more I just can’t remember atm!
As for reading, I do sometimes read during me-time, but usually most of my reading is done during my commute to work. My current favourite recent reads are Pretty Honest by Sally Hughes and Only The Innocent by Rachel Abbott.

2. What do you wear during me-time?
I love wearing anything that is comfortable and relaxing during me-time. This is usually either my onesie if it’s cold, pajamas or just general lounge wear.

3. What are your me-time beauty products?
Me-time for me is generally in the evenings when I’m relaxing after work or if I have a quiet weekend. I always try to take my makeup off or not put any on when I can if I’m not going anywhere to give my skin a rest and I will usually try and do a face mask. Other beauty products I usually use during me time include fake tan, moisturiser and a conditioning hair mask.
4. Current favourite nail polish?
For Christmas I received a couple of Ciate nail varnishes which I absolutely love. I hadn’t tried Ciate until then and it is definitely now one of my favourite nail polish brands.

5. What do you eat/drink during me-time?
I generally try to be quite healthy during the weeks and when I’m in work – but often in the evenings or weekends I can’t resist some goodies. So me-time often will involve some ice cream or chocolate of some sort, it wouldn’t be as enjoyable otherwise!

6. Current favourite candle?
I am a massive fan of Yankee candles and currently I have been burning ‘Snowflake Cookie’ which I bought for Christmas and it smells so good!

7. Do you ever have outdoor me-time?
I love outdoor me-time as well as indoor me-time. This is generally more in the summer though – I absolutely love going for long walks with my dog when I can. I also try to go for runs whenever I can, but at the moment I have been going to the gym as it is too cold outside!

8. Would you ever go see a movie alone?
No I doubt I will ever go and see a movie alone. The cinema is so expensive these days, if I am going to watch a film alone I would rather be in bed in my pajamas not sitting in the cinema alone. For me the cinema is a way of socialising with friends and this is all part of the fun of a cinema trip, I think it would be boring otherwise.

9. Favourite online store?
There are a lot of online stores I love so it’s hard to choose one. Some of my favourites include Missguided, Boohoo, Fashion Union and Pretty Little Thing.

10. Anything to add? What else do you do during me-time?
Me-time is definitely essential – everyone needs some time to themselves to relax and unwind! Although it can sometime be hard I always try to make time for me-time when I can. Another big part of me-time for me is blogging, whenever I have time I love to sit down and write some posts, take some photos and read other blogs.

I'd love to hear how everyone else spends their me-time so I'm tagging:

Small Lush Haul

This weekend I found myself with some time to kill in Waterloo station and I may have ended up in Lush... (dangerous) and although I wasn't actually planning on buying anything, as always I couldn't resist picking up a few bits I have had my eye on for awhile.
Unicorn Horn - £3.25
First up is the Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar. I have seen so much wonderful feedback about this - I just had to try it for myself! I absolutely love the design, the colours are so pretty and eye catching. Even more importantly it smells amazing. It is lavender scented which is such a relaxing smell and contains essential oils - sounds like the perfect combination for a bath! This works by crumbling it under running water which creates bubbles in the bath, and having seen some pictures of the great results on Instagram I am so excited to try it and pretty such I won't be disappointed.
The Kiss - £5.50
I have always wanted to try one of Lush's lip scrubs but just never actually gone out and purchased one. I'm not really sure why I have been putting it off because whenever I am at the till I'm on the verge of picking up one but I just wasn't sure if I would like them.

However, as it is Winter my lips have been so dry all the time so I knew I had to purchase one of these scrubs. Although I have had my eye on the bubblegum one, I decided to go for 'The Kiss' seeing as it's limited edition. The design won me over as well - it is so cute, I love pink and it has hundreds and thousands on it! The smell is also amazing, it is a mix of caster sugar, sea salt and editable hearts so it is very sweet. I tried this out as soon as I got it and it's safe to say I love it already.
Rock Star - £3.40 for 100g | The Godmother - £3.10 for 100g
I have never tried a soap from Lush before but have always wanted to as they smell and look amazing, so I finally decided to purchase a couple seeing as I was stood there smelling for ages I just couldn't resist. The light pink soap is called 'Rock Star' and this caught my eye first mainly because of the pretty colour and then the incredible smell! It is very sweet and contains vanilla which is lovely. It    looks like it is going to be so creamy and moisturising - I can't wait to try it.

The other soap I bought is called 'The Godmother'. This is less of a pretty colour but it smells incredible. If you are a fan of Snow Fairy which I know a lot of people are - it smells exactly like that! It is also very sweet so won't be to everyone's liking, but I am a massive fan of a sweet scent so this is perfect. It also contains coconut oil which is a big plus for me as it is so good for the skin. I can tell just by holding it that it is going to be so moisturising as you can feel the oils on your hands, so I can imagine this is going to be amazing.

That's everything I picked up in my spur of the minute Lush spree! Have you tried any of these? What do you think?

Elemis Mattifying Moisturiser

I’m so excited to write this post as I literally am so thrilled with this moisturiser! I received the Elemis Mattifying Moisturiser a while ago in a magazine, so long ago I can’t even remember which one it was. Ironically it sat it one of my drawers all this time and I completely forgot I had it up until a couple of weeks ago, and since then I’m not sure how I survived without it!

As the name suggests, this moisturiser is used to mattify and reduce shine for oily/combination skin. I suffer with oily skin so I am always on the lookout for anything that mentions about a matte effect (love that word).

This moisturiser is best used in the morning, on clean, dry skin before applying any primers or makeup. Elemis states it will reduce T-zone shine within one hour and maintains a matte finish for up to 8 hours and I can honestly say it does a very good job at doing this. The first couple of times I applied this I was shocked at the results, I looked at my skin in the mirror around midafternoon and there was no signs of oiliness at all in the t zone and my foundation was all in place. By the evening there was still only a small bit of oiliness which had formed, but significantly less then without using this moisturiser. I find this pretty impressive considering I apply my makeup around 7am in the morning so I never really expect it to stay in place this well all day.

I have tried a few different moisturisers for oily skin and up until now my favourite was Garnier Moisture Match Mattifying Cream - but Elemis has definitely taken over! Garnier is still good so if you are looking for a more reasonable priced cream it is great at £5.99! The Elemis Mattifying Cream is £21 so is quite expensive which is a bit of a downside. Although I have to say, considering how well it works I will be repurchasing as I do think it is worth the money.

One of the great things about the Elemis Mattifying Cream is that it isn’t drying at all. It contains Shea Butter which conditions and hydrates the skin, and Seamat which is what provides the mattifying effect. It also contains Iris which reduces redness and blemishes. I can’t say have actually noticed whether or not it has reduced redness on my skin, as I generally have foundation and powder on which covers up the redness anyway.

Although it isn’t that drying, I’m not sure I wouldn’t recommend it if you do have dry or sensitive skin, as it can sting on sensitive areas – I noticed this when I had a cold and my nose was very sensitive!

The formula is really lightweight and absorbs into the skin quickly which is always a bonus as I hate waiting around for creams to dry especially if you’re in a rush in the mornings. It also smells great, I can’t pinpoint what it is though – maybe citrus! But very fresh.

Overall as you can probably tell, I absolutely love this Elemis Mattifying Cream. It definitely does the job as I only received a smaller sample size which has nearly run out, I will most definitely be purchasing the full size.

Have you tried this? Are there any other Elemis products I need to try?
