Bare Minerals Christmas Party

A few weeks ago I attended the Bare Minerals Christmas Party in London to announce the launch of their new Christmas range called Enchantment. I was so excited to attend this as I am a big fan of Bare Minerals makeup, I tried their Get Started Kit a couple of years ago and really loved it, since then I have repurchased their powder foundation quite a few times - it is a favourite of mine.

The Enchantment collection was beautifully presented around the room so I took the opportunity to snap a few photos when I arrived.

After admiring the lovely Enchantment range it was time to get a cocktail and see what else was happening....

There was so much to do at the party, there was someone doing nails, hair and makeup. I choose to get my hair done which was so much fun!

I wish I could have curls like this everyday! It was so lovely getting my hair done and the stylist was really friendly and so talented! After a few of us had our hair done we absolutely had to take some photos and Bare Minerals provided this photo frame which was so much fun taking photos with.

I had such a lovely evening at the Bare Minerals Christmas party, it was so great to see the new Enchantment makeup range and catch up with some blogger friends. My favourite item from the range is definitely the Regal Wardrobe eye and cheek palette, the design and colours are gorgeous - it is definitely top of my makeup wish list now!

Do you like the look of the Bare Minerals Enchantment range?

Real Techniques | Core Collection & Starter Kit

Real Techniques Core Collection and Starter Kit
Real Techniques Core Collection and Starter Kit

Over the last couple of years I have tried out a few of the Real Techniques individual brushes and absolutely loved all of them. So it's about time I invested in some of their sets (I realise I am massively behind with this!). Lots of you may have already tried out the Core Collection and Starter Kit as they are staples from Real Techniques and have been around a long time, but I just had to talk about them on my blog as I am so impressed!

Real Techniques Core Collection
Core Collection - £21.99
The Core Collection contains four full size face brushes and comes with in a black case which doubles up as a stand. It is a great extra having the case to keep them in but I have to say I haven't used it and probably won't be as I keep all my brushes in a pot together and it does seem a little bulky.

Real Techniques Core Collection

The brushes from left to right:

Buffing Brush - This brush can be used for applying foundation lightly to the face, I find it best for applying powder foundation as it is slightly too soft for liquid - unless you like a light coverage then this would be perfect. I have also used this brush for applying blusher to the cheeks which it is great for.

Contour Brush - This is by far my favourite brush out of the collection and an absolute must have for anyone who highlights and contours. It is the perfect size and shape for applying product to the areas you want to contour and it works really well with both powder and cream.

Pointed Foundation Brush - Although this brush is advertised as a foundation brush I find it too small to use for applying foundation to the whole face - it would take forever! It is much better for applying foundation or concealer to specific areas as the angled tip allows you to be really precise with your application.

Detailer Brush - I wasn't sure how to use this brush at first and forgot about it for awhile, however I have recently rediscovered it and use it almost every day! It is a really great multipurpose brush. It can be used for applying concealer, lipstick or even eyeliner or shadow. I mostly use it to apply concealer when I need to be really precise in certain areas, for example if I use a bold lip colour I use this to conceal and tidy up the edges.

Real Techniques Starter Kit
Starter Kit - £21.99
I also recently decided to purchase the Starter Kit from Real Techniques - I have had my eye on this one for ages! This kit costs £21.99 which is seriously good value for five brushes.

Real Techniques Starter Kit
Brushes from left to right:

Accent Brush - This is quite a firm brush and can be used for smudging, highlighting small areas and any precision detailing. I use this quite a lot to apply eyeshadow to the lash line and it works really well.

Brow Brush - This is my favourite brush out of this set, since having it I have used this to fill in my eyebrows everyday. The pointed angle allows you to get a really precise and defined finish. It works really well to apply both powder and wax.

Fine Liner Brush - This is the only brush out of the set that I haven't used, it is designed for applying cream or liquid liner but as I normally just use a pencil eyeliner I haven't needed this yet. It is very thin so I imagine it would be good to get a precise application.

Base Shadow Brush - As the name says, this brush is for applying your base shadow to the eyelid. I really love this brush, it is the perfect shape and really soft and gentle on the eyelid.

Deluxe Crease Brush - When I first saw this brush I thought it was slightly too big to use in the crease and wasn't sure I would like it however I was very wrong. The fact that it is slightly oversized allows you to apply eyeshadow to the crease with ease and blend it out so you have no harsh lines.
As you can probably tell by now, I am a massive fan of both the Core Collection and Starter Kit. They are both really great value for money as the quality is amazing. Yet again Real Techniques have impressed me with their wonderful brushes!

Have you tried either of these sets?

Appleyard London Autumn Flower Bouquet

Appleyard London Flower Bouquet Appleyard London Flower Bouquet
Appleyard London Flower Bouquet

I was recently contacted by Appleyard London and asked if I would like to review one of their autumn flower bouquets. I had not come across them before, but after having a quick browse on their website I saw how beautiful the flowers looked and just had to say yes to the opportunity. I absolutely love flowers but I very rarely treat myself to some for my flat, so I was really excited to be sent an Appleyard bouquet.

Appleyard London are a online luxury flower delivery service delivering to all over the UK. They have a dedicated team of experienced florists and pride themselves in their cutting edge, unique designs. You can definitely tell this when looking on their website – the bouquets are absolutely beautiful.

It took me awhile to choose one as they all looked amazing but I eventually decided to go for the bouquet called ‘Pumpkin Chutney’. I thought it was very fitting seeing as its Halloween this week and I loved the mix of bright oranges and pinks.

As soon as my bouquet arrived I was really impressed, the flowers were carefully wrapped in a large box and protected with wrapping so there was no chance of them being damaged. They came with detailed instructions of how best to prepare the flowers to ensure they last as long as possible, I found this really helpful as I don’t really know a lot about flowers! The colours are just as pretty as I had expected, the orange and pinks shades are gorgeous and go so well together.

I have had my flowers for almost a week and they are lasting really well overall. I photographed them as soon as I arrived (I was very excited!) and since then even more buds have opened up which are lovely.

Appleyard London Flower Bouquet

I personally love online flower delivery services, I don’t live close to my family so I find it such a convenient way to send flowers for special occasions. Appleyard deliver seven days a week and do next day flowers which is always handy if you are a last minute person like me!

Appleyard were kind enough to give me a discount code to share - you can get 33% off their range of luxury bouquets with the code BLOG33. This is such a generous discount and I can definitely be saying I will be taking advantage of that in the near future! (There is no expiry date on this code). The code can be used on any flowers on the website, except for the 'Flowers by post' range.

If you are interested in ordering some flowers from Appleyard I definitely recommend! The only thing to mention is just be aware that the bouquets come in different sizes and usually the one photographed is the largest size - just so you don't get a shock if it isn't as big as you expected.

I'm so grateful to Appleyard for sending me these flowers - I absolutely love my bouquet and I will definitely be shopping there in the near future with the blogger discount code! Have you ordered from Appleyard before?

Estee Lauder Lipstick | Kendall Jenner's Shade

Estee Lauder Lipstick | Kendall Jenner's Shade
Estee Lauder Lipstick | Kendall Jenner's Shade

I recently came across the new Estee Lauder pop up shop in Boxpark Shoreditch which I just couldn’t resist having a browse in. It is such a cute mini store - I definitely recommend a trip there if you are in the area. I noticed the new Kendall Jenner lipstick straight away, it was on display at the front of the shop and looked absolutely beautiful! I have read a lot about this online and it sounded amazing, so when I saw it right in front of me I just couldn’t resist getting it. The only lipsticks I really tend to buy are MAC so it is nice now and again to try something else.

The lipstick is called Restless and has been created in collaboration with Kendall Jenner – she has called it her favourite shade! Restless isn’t your typical red lipstick, it is described as part poppy, part orange which I think describes it perfectly. It is such a bold and bright shade of red and the orange in it makes it really unique and fun.

Anyone who reads my blog will probably know by now that I am obsessed with matte lipsticks, so when I noticed Restless is a matte formula it just made me love it even more. The lipstick is so pigmented and has amazing colour pay off. You literally need one swipe of this and you will achieve the gorgeous bright shade. I have worn this a few times already and have been really impressed with how long lasting the lipstick is, it stays on for hours and is not drying at all.Estee Lauder Lipstick | Kendall Jenner's Shade

As if the gorgeous shade isn’t enough, the lipstick is presented in such a lovely sophisticated case. It is a beautiful dark navy and gold design with Kendall’s signature on the lid. I think Estee Lauder introducing Kendall as their new spokesmodel a few months ago was a brilliant idea – she brings a young, more modern face to the brand and this can definitely be seen through this lipstick.

I love wearing red lips during Autumn and Winter and I already know this is going to be my new go to shade!

Puriskin Resurfacing Formula

Puriskin Resurfacing Formula review

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in support of this I wanted to talk to you about the Puriskin Resurfacing Formula*. 20% of the sales of this product go to the charity Passionate Pink, whose aim is to help those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

This cream was of interest to me as it aims to improve the appearance of damaged areas of the skin ranging from scarring, ingrown hairs, uneven skin tone or texture, stretchmarks and razor bumps. I have quite a few scars on my body and some areas on my face which was caused by spots when I was younger, so I was interested to see if this cream had an effect. The formula contains a complex of natural essential oils including tigergrass and comfrey plant which work together to hydrate and tone damaged areas of skin. I’m always a fan of anything that contains natural ingredients as I suffer with quite sensitive skin.

Puriskin Resurfacing Formula review

I noticed in the directions it says to try and apply this morning and night to get the best results so I have been trying to do this when I can. I do prefer applying this at night though after taking off my makeup as it leaves my skin feeling really soft and I can still feel the effect of it in the morning.

I haven’t yet noticed whether or not it has improved the appearance of blemishes and damaged areas of my skin - I think this may be something that gradually improves over time. However, I have definitely noticed the soothing affect it has on my skin. Even though I have combination skin, during the colder months of the year I get dry areas of skin on my face and this cream has definitely improved these areas. My skin feels much softer and hydrated and it hasn't irritated these areas at all - this is quite impressive to me as so many creams just don't work for me.

I also have to mention how lovely this cream smells. It is a lovely thick formula which blends into the skin really well and smells so refreshing and clean.

I'm very glad I've found a cream that works for me and I can see myself using this a lot over the next few months as it gets colder outside. This cream can be used on the whole body and not just the face - so I will definitely be trying this out on other parts of my body soon and seeing how it works.

Have you tried the Puriskin Resurfacing Formula?

10 Makeup Tips You Might Not Know Already

I have been a beauty blogger for over a year now and I hadn’t realised until thinking about it the other day how much I have actually learnt about makeup since starting out. I have always been obsessed with makeup and thought I knew most beauty tips and tricks out there already, but it turns out there was a lot I didn’t know about! Reading beauty blogs is so fun and I love finding out about other people’s beauty regimes. I thought it would be fun to share with you guys a few of my favourite tips, hope you enjoy reading!

1. Makeup expires – I always kind of knew that makeup expires but have never paid attention to it as I didn’t really think it mattered. This was until I read a few blog posts about why it is important to be aware of this. Out of date makeup is essentially like out of date food – it can harvest bacteria and cause skin irritations. Did anyone else see on the news a few weeks ago that the meningitis virus was found in old out of date makeup?! NO THANKS. If you want to find out when makeup expires, Hayley from The Glasgow Girl has written a really great post (How Long Should You Keep Your Makeup?).

2. Use tape when applying eyeshadow or winged eyeliner – This has literally been a saviour. Using tape allows you to get a really neat line and make sure your eyeliner is even on both eyes. I learnt how to do this by watching some YouTube tutorials so I recommend having a look there if you haven’t tried this already.

3. Heat your eyelash curler with your hairdryer – For a while I wanted to buy one of those fancy heated eyelash curlers until I realised that it was possible just to heat up the one you already have. I hold my eyelash curler under my hairdryer for a few seconds before curling my eyelashes and it makes the curl hold for so much longer. I don’t recommend doing this everyday though as heat can damage the hairs.

4. Apply foundation after eye makeup – For years my makeup routine was to apply my foundation and other face products first and eye makeup last.  When I read somewhere that it sometimes might be better to do your eye makeup first I was not convinced. This was until I tried it! Doing your eye makeup first allows you to wipe away any fallout or mistakes you make without worrying about messing up your foundation and having to do it all again. I find this much easier if I’m doing a heavier eye look where you can get more fallout.

5. Use concealer after doing eyebrows – I always wondered how that perfect flawless eyebrow look is achieved. I thought I just wasn’t really that good at drawing on my eyebrows as they never looked as neat as some and it does require a steady hand! However, after watching some YouTube tutorials I noticed how almost all of them finish with going around the eyebrows with concealer. This gives such a lovely defined line and makes the eyebrows look amazing!

6. Use white eyeliner to make the eyes look bigger – I used to always use black eyeliner on my waterline. I did sometimes feel like it made my eyes look smaller but I don’t like having no eyeliner at all as I feel bare. I recently tried using white eyeliner instead of black on my waterline and I absolutely love the effect it gives. It makes the eyes look so big and bright and now I do this almost every day.

7. Don’t pump your mascara – I never even realised there was anything wrong with doing this until I read it on a blog a while ago. Pumping the mascara wand in and out of the tube lets lots of air in which can cause it to dry out really quickly. I try to never do this even though it is tempting sometimes!

8. Use hairspray to seal makeup – This is one that some of you may frown upon as I realise it’s not exactly great for you skin to spray hairspray on it. I only do this if I’ve run out of makeup setting spray or am going on a night out and I find it seals the makeup really well.

9. Use lip liner – Before I started beauty blogging I had never used lip liner as I didn’t really understand why you needed it as well as lipstick. How wrong I was! After reading blog posts about different lip liners I was curious to try one and I haven’t looked back since. Using lip liner underneath a lipstick makes the staying power ten times better – it lasts for hours. I have also started using lip liner for nights out to extend my lips and make them look better which I absolutely love the effect of.

10. Apply concealer in a triangle shape – This is a trick I only learnt after starting blogging and probably one of my favourites. If you apply concealer in an upside down triangle shape under the eyes it brightens up the face and draws attention to the eyes and away from any darkness.

I hope these tips have been helpful to you if you didn't know them already! What are your favourite beauty tips?

Jerome Russell Bblonde Maximum Lightening Spray

Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Spray

As a blonde who gets my hair highlighted every 6-8 weeks, I like to try and keep that salon fresh bright blonde for as long as I can. Most of you other blondes out there will know that unfortunately after a few weeks the colour can fade darker and leave you with brassy yellow tones. There are a lot of products I use for this including shampoos and conditioners for blondes and purple shampoo. I have only tried one other brightening spray before now which was the John Frieda Go Blonder Controlled Spray and I really liked this so I was excited to try out another one.

Jerome Russell Bblonde has been voted the UK's no.1 blonding brand and have been around for over 30 years. This instantly makes me feel confident about a brand as they have a lot of experience in what works for blonde hair. I was offered the chance to try one of their products and I knew straight away I wanted to go for the Lightening Spray* as I hadn't had my hair coloured for awhile at that point so it was the perfect opportunity to try this out.

Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Spray
Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Spray

This spray is a permanent lightener and contains hydrogen peroxide so it is really important to read all the instructions and follow them when using this as you don't want to end up damaging your hair. They advise you to carry out a skin sensitivity test and a strand test to make sure you don't react to the product, I chose not to do this as I haven't had a problem with products like this before but it's up to you if you want to do that or not. It's probably best to definitely do this if you have sensitive skin.

After the test, the instructions say to spray evenly through clean, towel dried hair then blow dry and style as desired. The spray works better with heat applied to it so I always use it when my hair is wet and then blow dry and straighten my hair.

Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Spray

Results should start to be seen after three applications and you should only use this spray up to ten times as maximum lightening should be achieved by then. The outcome of this spray will vary depending on the shade of your hair, as you can see above it can be used on light brown to light blonde hair but you shouldn't use this if you have dark brown hair. I have quite light blonde hair so I was hoping to get the lightest result that's possible.

Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Spray - before and after
I definitely started to see results after around three uses. You can see in the top picture above my hair before using the spray, it was quite a dull shade of blonde and you can clearly see my roots coming through. The bottom picture shows my hair after using the spray over five applications. I spread out these applications leaving a few days in between so there is around three weeks from when I took the before picture and the after picture.

You can see my hair after using the spray has definitely got lighter. The spray has brightened up my dull blonde hair and given it a much lighter golden shade. I was really impressed with how well the spray lightened my hair, I didn't even realise how much it had worked until I looked back at the before picture! (neither of these pictures have been edited). Since using the spray I have been using purple shampoo to add platinum tones to the golden shade and keep it from going dull quickly. I absolutely love the combination of this lightening spray and purple shampoo and am pleased to say it has definitely delayed my trip to the hairdressers for a few more weeks!

As if I didn't already love this spray enough it also has an amazing added bonus - it contains thermal protector so it reduces the damage caused by applying heat onto the hair.

This Bblonde Lightening Spray retails at only £5.99 which is very reasonable when you compare it to the cost of getting your hair coloured at the hairdressers!

Have you tried any products from Bblonde?

W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks | Candy Floss and Pink Icing

W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks
W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks

So this might not be the most appropriate post right now as we are going into Autumn/Winter and these are probably shades most people would choose for Summer, but I just have to talk about these two lipsticks on my blog now. I have been wearing each of them almost everyday for the last couple of weeks, I love pink all year round as those who know me will know!
W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks
Left - 'Candy Floss', Right - 'Pink Icing'
I got these W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks in my goody bag from the Big Blogger Conference back in August and I was really excited to try them as I'm already a big fan of W7 makeup - their eyeshadow palettes are amazing! This W7 range of lipsticks comes in quite a few different shades, they have pink, coral and red shades and I was pleased I got two of the pinks. The shades I got are called 'Candy Floss' and 'Pink Icing'. I love both of these shades, they are such girly, barbie colours - made for me!

As these lipsticks are called Butter Kiss I was expecting them to be really soft and moisturising on the lips and they definitely are! They are perfect if you have dry lips and struggle with more matte lipsticks. Although I am a massive fan of matte lipsticks, now and again I get quite dry lips and prefer to use something more moisturising. Applying these lipsticks felt the same as applying lip balm - impressive!
W7 Butter Kiss Lipstick Swatches
Left - 'Candy Floss', Right - 'Pink Icing'
A great bonus to these lipsticks is that even though they aren't matte at they are still fairly pigmented. I wasn't expecting them to be at all as they are cheaper as well at £4.50 each, so I was really impressed when I applied them! You can see from my swatches how pigmented they are. The staying power isn't amazing but you can't expect that with this type of formula. They are so quite and easy to apply and reapply, I have been using Pink Icing almost everyday recently!

I'm so glad I got these in my goodie bag and I'm pretty sure I will be purchasing a couple more, the red shades look absolutely gorgeous for Winter.
Have you tried any of these W7 Butter Kiss Lipsticks?

Hottest Beauty Trends For AW15

Today's post is a guest post by Amy Mia Goldsmith. When I was contacted by Amy and she mentioned the topic I knew straight away I wanted to feature it on my blog. I love sussing out the different makeup trends that appear each season. As we enter into Autumn and Winter here's a look at some of the current trends written by Amy.

Hello girls,

It seems that it is the right time to gather the impressions of the standout looks that marched the runway this month. Although haute couture is not in store for most of us, this autumn/winter season is all about turning your face into a canvas and making a statement with bold makeup. From graphic eyeliner, to glittering metallic shadows, to hot red lipstick, there are so many ways you can make it happen.

Check out the latest beauty trends of the season and get inspired.

1. Something Blue

One thing is certain: blue is the new black this season. From baby blue, and icy white, to bolder aqua marine and cobalt blue, using an all blue palette is an imperative. The color has a mysterious ethereal aura surrounding it. Vibrant cobalt dominated at Maison Margiela and Jean Paul Gaultier fashion shows, where ladies were sent onto the catwalk with fabric-like swatches, exaggerated cat-eyes and mariniere stripes on top and bottom lash lines. The lesson of the season is: if you are lacking boldness, compensate it with some bold blue hues.

2. Metallic eyes

This season is all about the eyes, with a focus on opacity and shape. If you wish to make a clear statement, luckily for you, metallics are back in a big way. They were all over the runways. Shimmers, sparkles, sequins, they come in all shapes and forms – from soft shimmers to reflective party eyes. Smokey eyes don’t have to be all about black. Molten metallics are equally steamy, but they will give your eyes a much fresher look.If you are brave enough, try the eye-catching gold foil lids, mixed with smoky black. Don’t be afraid to combine warm and cool hues. Or just draw a gold, bronze or silver line across the lower lids.

3. Red lipstick - now & forever

Red lipstick made a huge comeback after being away for a few seasons. It is not a revolutionary idea, but classic red lips always deserve to be mentioned. It comes in a range of colors, from brick-red to tangerine seen at Kaelen show, to oxblood lips and darker hues at Dolce &Gabbana. In matte or glossy, everyone can find their favorite. So, if you haven’t been bold enough to wear it so far, stand out this autumn with some slight cherry hue.

4. Skin is In

A glowing complexion is always in, but this season it is a must. At Calvin Klein, Pucci, Valentino, Nina Ricci, and many more, they went for a well-nourished look. The fresh skin effect was achieved with face oils, concealers, and highlighters. So, the best fashion advice for this autumn and winter might be to drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, and invest in quality skincare products. Skin care products from SkinCeuticals contain quality moisturizers, soothing gels and balms that will help you achieve this. Aussies, you can get  Skinceuticals skincare products from Alive Skin+Hair.

5. Plaits for Rainy Days

The frizz-taming power of plaits is appealing to all of us, and now that the style has become  haute couture, we have one more reason to start plaiting. We saw them at Fendi, Stella McCartney, Pucci, Marc Jacobs, Bluemarine – everywhere. There are so many ways to wear them. Whether it’s a halo braid, fishtail, plaited chignon, or simple twisted tresses, the catwalk has made its statement – plaits are back! They have already found their way to the red carpet as well. Make them as neat or as messy as you wish and you will still be super sophisticated, as  boho style is in this season.

Finally, we can all feel haute couture. Which autumn beauty trend is your favourite?
