Benefit- Rockateur

Benefit - Rockateur - £23.50
A few weeks ago when I was celebrating my graduation from university I was wandering House of Fraser with my parents and my lovely Mum offered to treat me to a new item of makeup. I knew straight away I wanted a blusher as I didn’t really have one I was that fond of at the time. As this was a nice little surprise to me I have to say I didn’t actually have any idea which blush I wanted and purchasing Rockateur was a very spur of the moment decision. I normally research everything before I buy and read lots of reviews so this was a bit of a risk. I spotted the Benefit counter and couldn’t resist having a look, I always enjoy looking at everything they have as the packaging and layout is always so pretty.

The packaging of Rockateur  is gorgeous, I love the pink and black design it is so girly and perfect for me. As for the actual product when i first looked it didn’t actually appeal to me that much as I saw the strong gold shimmer and thought it would be too much for everyday wear – I was actually leaning more towards purchasing Dandelion. However after chatting to the lady at the counter she explained that the gold shimmer on Rockateur is actually just the top layer and once you get through that there isn’t actually that much shimmer and it is more of a matte finish. She kindly allowed me to try both on my skin and I could see she was right – the rose colour of Rockateur was gorgeous and Dandelion I felt was much too light for me.

Since trying out Rockateur a few more times I can see there actually isn’t any glitter whatsoever once you get past the top layer, there is just a light shimmer which looks very pretty. It is very subtle when applied which I feel makes it perfect for everyday wear when you don’t want too much – just a slight colour to the cheeks. It is also great if you want to build up your cheek colour, as when you add a couple more layers the shimmer becomes more noticeable which makes it perfect for an evening look.

The only negative I have about Rockateur is that I’m not really fan of the brush that comes with it. Like all brushes that come with the Benefit boxes it is small and compact to fit inside the packaging. Although this is very convenient if you are traveling I find the bristles don’t feel very nice and I find it much easier to apply where you want it by using my Real Techniques blush brush.

I am so pleased the lady in Benefit leaned me towards purchasing this blush as I probably wouldn’t of otherwise. It has become a staple item now in my everyday makeup as I think the rose colour is absolutely gorgeous, very flattering and gives the face a nice warmth which looks great.

Have you tried this blush from Benefit? What do you think?

River Island Haul

I have been a subscriber to Elle magazine for a while now and quite often they have gift cards included with them which is a nice little surprise. This month featured a 20% off River Island card which happens to be one of my favourite shops. With this being said there was only one thing to do - get myself down to River Island and see what was on offer! I didn't buy everything in this haul in one go, but over the last few weeks I have bought a few new items for Autumn/Winter from River Island  as they have had quite a good sale as well - so I thought it would be nice to share everything with you all in a post.

£15 - Link
One of the first things I picked up was this cropped grey 3/4 length sleeve top. I needed a few everyday tops and I thought this would be great with some high waisted jeans or leggings. I usually tend to stick to bright colours so I thought it would be nice to add some grey to my wardrobe this year and at £15 I thought this was very reasonable.

I absolutely love wearing red during this time of year, I love the colour and it makes me feel very festive. As soon as I saw this top I thought it would look great with some black jeans and a statement necklace. I can't seem to find the link on the website now so I'm not sure if its sold out and I can't seem to remember how much it was (I know I should keep the labels!) but I think it was around £15.

Jumper - £15
Jumper - £15
In the sale I spotted these two jumpers, both were reduced from £35 to £15 so I just couldn't leave without them! I love the heart design on both, they are so thick and look like they are going to be so warm and cosy during the cold winter months - I can't wait to wear them.

Leggings - £12

Also in the sale I found these grey leggings reduced to £12 from £22. The only leggings I had before this were black so I thought it would be nice to expand my collection, I think these will go great with the two jumpers above. They are so thick and such good quality so I'm very pleased to find them in the sale and can see myself wearing these a lot.

Jeggings - £40
I have wanted a pair of these River Island jeggings for so long now, but haven't been able to justify spending £40 as I think that's quite a lot, so I thought having the 20% off card was the perfect time to invest in a pair. They are such good quality and I love that they are available in a short length as I always struggle with trousers being too long (I'm such a shorty!). These jeggings fit so well and are very comfortable, I am definitely going to be wearing these a lot.
Socks - £4 each or 3 for £8
Whilst browsing River Island I spotted these cute little ankle socks. I love the frills on these, they will be perfect with a pair of ankle boots to add a bit of detail - and with the 3 for £8 offer I obviously had to buy three pairs!
I thought with my 20% off voucher it would be the perfect time to pick up a few nice pieces of jewellery from River Island, I always look what they have but haven't actually bought very much as I think it can sometimes be quite expensive. However saying that I actually think these earrings are quite reasonably priced and with the discount it was even better. I chose I couple or pairs of hoops which I love to jazz up an outfit in the evening, and a pair of black and gold studs for everyday.
Bracelet - £5
I also found this gorgeous gold leaf bracelet which I absolutely love. It will be perfect to add to an evening outfit during the winter and I thought £5 was quite reasonable.

Boots - £30
Last but definitely not least (in fact this is probably my favourite purchase out of everything) are these River Island boots. I have had my eye on these for a while but could not justify spending £45 on them. To my delight I spotted these while I was shopping in Cardiff reduced to £30 so I just had to buy them! I have seen this style of boot around a lot these season and I absolutely love it. They are so comfortable considering they have such a big heel - as the wedge makes it feel like you aren't really even wearing a heel. I think these will definitely be getting a lot of use, I can't wait to wear them already.
So that's the end of my River Island haul - I definitely need to have a clothes shopping ban for a few weeks now! Although this is going to be hard as there are so many lovely autumn/pieces appearing all the time.
Do you like any of the items I bought? What's your favourite? Have you got any recent haul posts? I'd love to have a read :)

No7 Lipstick - Raspberry

Not long ago was the launch of the No7 lipstick match service offered in Boots. If you are not familiar with this it is when they match you with lipsticks shades which best suit your skin tone. If you have ever had the foundation match in Boots it is the same process. They scan a patch of your face (makeup free) and it tells you the most suitable foundation shade for your skin. Based on which foundation it tells you, there are then a selection of lipsticks which are best suitable. When I first heard about this I wasn’t really sure what to think, as to be honest I don’t really mind whether or not a lipstick matches my skin tone necessarily, if I like a lip colour and think it goes with my outfit or makeup I will wear it. Despite this I wanted to try the service, as I am a fan of No7 lipsticks and I had a Boots No7 voucher (love these!).

I was surprisingly impressed with the selection of lipsticks it recommended for me. There was a range of pinks which were gorgeous and also a lovely selection of reds, with some that I wouldn’t normally have gone for as I’m not very brave with darker shades. The No7 lady was so helpful and patient as I tried out a few different colours and after my experience I have to say I do recommend trying out the lipstick match service. It forced me to branch out of my usual colours and go for something different and it is free so even if it doesn’t really help, you haven’t lost any money.

I ended up going for the colour ‘Raspberry’ from the Stay Perfect range. When I tried it I really liked it and I thought it would be perfect for Autumn. I only have one other lipstick from the Stay Perfect range and I have been really impressed with it, the staying power really is amazing. Raspberry is the most gorgeous colour, it is quite close to red, though in my swatch it looks dark pink. I like to apply it with a lip brush as I think it is neater, and the staying power again lives up to my expectation. It is quite matte but still creamy and not drying at all. It claims to last six hours, I’m not sure if it did last up to six hours exactly, but I’ll just say I applied it in the morning before work and there was still some left at lunchtime – this I find very impressive.

This is the third No7 lipstick in my collection and now a favourite of mine for this season. They are such a reasonable price and so far all the ones I’ve had I’ve bought with a Boots voucher which makes it even better! There are so many colours and I can definitely see my collection growing.

Have you tried any No7 lipsticks? What do you think of them?

Xen-Tan Mousse Intense Review

If you haven’t guessed already I am a huge fan of fake tan. Xen-Tan is a brand I have wanted to try for so long after reading so many amazing reviews, but just haven’t been able to justify spending the money on it- this retails at £23.99. However, a couple of months ago I purchased some for my friend for her birthday as I knew she would love it, and with an offer on in Boots I thought what the heck and bought myself some as well.

There were many of Xen-Tan’s products in Boots and I have to say I had a hard time choosing. I finally decided to go for the mousse in Med/Dark. I tend to always prefer a mousse formula, I think it is easier to apply and any patches or mistakes can be cleared up quickly when wearing a tanning mitt. I have to say the thing that drew me to this particular product more than anything else is seeing it has a vanilla scent – as the worst thing about fake tan can sometimes be that strong horrible smell that lingers around and tells the world you have applied fake tan. With vanilla being one of my favourite scents, seeing this meant I just had to try it. I am very happy to say the scent has lived up to my expectations, it is a gorgeous sweet vanilla fragrance and doesn’t smell like normal fake tan.

As you can see, it comes in a white bottle with a very easy to use pump. I apply this with a mitt and it blends into the skin really well. I have found that it does dry very quickly, so you do need to be quick with rubbing in the product. Despite this I do prefer this as it means you don’t have to wait around very long, so it is very convenient if you are in a rush and it doesn’t seem to rub off on the clothes which is great.

I applied one layer of this before bed and showered it off in the morning and there was such a great result. I was impressed by how much of a difference in colour there was from only one application. Normally I have to apply fake tan two/three nights in a row to build the level of darkness I like, whereas with this I felt happy with one this one application.

As for the staying power, I found it lasted on my skin for around 4/5 days without any real noticeable fading. However I did reapply once more in this time, so it may last a bit less with only one application. When it faded it didn’t go patchy at all and the only area I noticed anything was the elbow joint, but this is always going to happen with fake tan when you leave it on.

This has fast become a favourite of mine, and if it wasn’t for the large price tag I would repurchase it straight away. I’m not sure I can justify the £23.99 for it again so I will be keeping a look out for deal in Boots again or online. I have already seen it cheaper on Feel Unique and Amazon, so if you are interested you could have a look there.

Have you tried this product or any other Xen- Tan? What do you think?

The Autumn Tag

Thank you Lauren from High Street Hopes for tagging me to do the 'Autumn Tag'. This is such a great way to find out what we are all loving this season as the weather gets colder so I hope you enjoy reading :)

 1. Coffee - What's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks or any other coffee shop?

My favourite seasonal drink by fair is a Gingerbread hot chocolate from Starbucks or Costa. I know this is more of a Christmas drink not Autumn but I think they bring it out soon and I can’t wait! I’m not a coffee person so hot chocolates for me.

  2. Accessories - What do you opt for, scarf, boots or gloves?

I definitely opt for all three, I think they are all needed in this cold weather! My favourite though is probably boots. I do love when it is cold enough to wear a lovely pair of ankle or high boots and I love all the different styles that are around. I am currently looking for a high pair of black suede or leather boots but it is very difficult as I am quite short so they are all too long, if you have any suggestions please let me know!

3. Music - What's your favourite music to listen to during Autumn?

I have to say I don’t really change my music taste during seasons. I like a wide range of music with my favourite being house/ drum and bass and I don’t really tend to change this much. Though I am partial to a bit of Taylor Swift as well ;). Saying this, I will avoid summer anthems for example ‘Waves – Mr Probs’ (best summer song of this year in my opinion!), as it will make me miss the sun far too much. I can’t wait to crack out the Christmas tunes- is it too early yet?!

4. Perfume - What's your favourite scent for this time of year?

Again, I don’t really tend to change my perfume during seasons. My most worn scent is Juicy Couture- Viva La Juicy or Escada. These are both quite sweet scents and I tend to stick to these as I love anything sweet smelling.

5. Candles - What scents will you be burning this season?

I am a big fan of candles- with my favourite being Yankee and Lily Flame. Yankee have a range of autumnal scents and my favourite is ‘Pumpkin Ginger Bark’, I recently saw this in the Yankee shop and it smells amazing- need to get my hands on it. Lily Flame also have some lovely candles for this season and the ones I have my eyes on are ‘Warm Welcome’ and ‘Spook’. Don’t even get me started on all the Christmas candles I have my eye on from these brands- we could be here awhile!

6. What do you love best about Autumn?

My favourite thing about autumn is definitely being able to wrap up warm and cosy and light the real fire in the house for the first time as the weather gets colder. I also love watching all the autumn/ winter fashion trends emerge and getting my hands on some new pieces, I love a good warm and cosy jumper.

7. Favourite make up look?

During the autumn/ winter months I tend to stop wearing bright summer colours as much, and lean more towards black and red. I also love any clothing involving a bit of gold, silver, sequins or glitz as I think these are wonderful in the festive season.  So with this, my preferred make up look is a dark, shimmery smokey eye and a deep red lip.

8. What are you looking forward to the most in the Autumn?

This autumn I am really looking forward to taking my dog for walks on the beach (she isn’t allowed on in the summer months), drinking lots of hot chocolates to keep warm and of course Halloween.

Empties #2

I can't believe how long it has taken me to write up this post! I took these photos awhile ago and have almost built up enough empties since then for empties #3! Bad blogger I am. Anyway I am finally getting round to it, so here are some products I have run out of, I will go through each one and let you know my thoughts and if I will be repurchasing. I find empties posts one of my favourites to read so I hope you enjoy this :)

1. Dove- Summer Glow £4.99 I am a huge, huge, HUGE fan of gradual tanners, yes I did need to say huge that many times, and its safe to say I've tried quite a few. Dove is definitely one of my favourites. This is a moisturising body lotion with a subtle self-tanner which gradually builds up a natural looking tan. This comes in fair to medium skin, or medium to dark, I have tried both and I prefer the darker of the two as I feel it provides a better colour. It smells gorgeous and doesn't have that sometimes strong fake tan, the only negative I can give is it takes awhile to dry as it is quite a think lotion.

2. Garnier- Summer Body £5.36 Although this is slightly more expensive, it is my favourite of the two. This also comes in two shades and I go for the 'Deep Sun Kissed Look'. I prefer this as it is a slightly thinner formula so blends into the skin so quickly and you don't have to sit around waiting for it to dry. It also smells like apricot which is absolutely gorgeous. This gradual tanner blends so well into the skin and fades well with no patches. I will definitely be repurchasing this!

3. Radox - Pink Grapefruit & Basil Shower Gel £1.00  I  know shower gel isn't the most interest thing to talk about but I have included this as it is one that I have really been loving recently. It smells absolutely gorgeous, the grapefruit is so refreshing and the smells really lasts after you come out of the shower. As well as this, I find the packaging and look is a bonus, I love the pink colour and the fact that it has a handle and opens at the bottom is very convenient. I have already repurchased this.

4. Garnier- Micellar Cleansing Water £4.99 So I have recently jumped on the micellar water bandwagon and I am so glad I have, I can see what all the hype is about! This micellar water by Garnier is amazing. I often struggle with eye makeup removers as I have quite sensitive eyes and it can sting, but this doesn't sting at all so I really recommend it to anyone with sensitive eyes or skin. I love the fact that it has no perfumes or harsh ingredients, it removes make up quick and easily with no need for rubbing hard. I will definitely will be repurchasing this when I run out, the bottle seems to last forever which is great as well.

5. Nivea- Moisturising After Sun Spray £7.00 I know summer is over and we aren't really using after sun anymore, but I have to mention this one and make sure you remember it for next year if you like the sound of it. This aftersun has Aloe Vera, so first of all it smells amazing, but most importantly it cools the skin instantly when applied which is such a great feeling after you have been in the sun. It absorbs into the skin really quickly so no need for forcing rubbing which can be horrible if you have sun burn. I used this every day whist I was on holiday and it is well and truly my favourite aftersun and I will definitely be purchasing this for next summer.

6. MAC Viva Glam Lady Gaga Lipstick £15.50 It's always a sad time when a MAC lipstick runs out, and the latest one to run out for me is Lady Gaga. This is a very light, baby pink shade and is a very creamy formula. As you can probably tell I am a big fan of this shade, I run out of it very quickly. The colour may not be for everyone as it is very girly and barbie like, but if you are into this like this you will definitely love it. It is great quality as well, with great staying power, definitely one I will be purchasing again if I can get my hands on it. Not sure if its still stocked, if any ones knows please tell me!

7. Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation £7.99 Unfortunately I am not a fan of this foundation. There's probably nothing wrong with the product itself, I'm just quite fussy and find it very hard to find a foundation that works for my skin. I found it slightly hard to blend into my skin and it took longer than other foundations. I also found it rubbed off after a few hours, but this can happen with oily skin. Saying this, I did manage to use up the whole thing as I don't like just leaving it, so it's not that bad really! I just can't say I'll be repurchasing it.

So that's the end of my second in my empties series! Have you tried any of the products I've mentioned? What do you think of them?
